The 69th Street alternate route study was initiated by C-Lemme Companies as a way to start a conversation with the City of Sioux Falls and other developers to think outside the box. The challenges for extending West 69th Street involve crossing over a complex interchange of two interstates and the wetlands located along the typical grid alignment of streets located on the mile line. Crossing over and through these two obstacles is projected to cost nearly $75 million.

This alternative reroutes West 69th Street to the south to create a simpler crossing over I-29. Moving 69th Street to the south avoids the series of wetlands on the typical street alignment. This alignment also creates an opportunity create a large area for conservation, recreation, and stormwater storage that is needed in the far southwest corner of Sioux Falls.
