Bond Program
The project: IMEG provided Performance Commissioning and building advocation services to support the successful implementation of mechanical and controls systems across multiple school facilities as part of Omaha Public Schools’ (OPS) Bond Program Phases I and II.
The goal: Ensure consistent, efficient, and maintainable mechanical system performance district-wide by commissioning new HVAC and control systems, troubleshooting installation issues, and supporting long-term building operations.
Project scope: Phase I of the Bond Program involved commissioning of HVAC and control systems at 15 schools. Based on the success of these efforts, IMEG was engaged again for Phase II, which included improvements and additions at 14 additional schools, the construction of two new high schools, one new middle school, and two new elementary schools.
Design approach: IMEG worked closely with OPS, contractors, and the Bond Program team to ensure that
all mechanical systems were installed and operating in accordance with design specifications. IMEG also helped develop mechanical and controls standards to promote uniformity across the district’s facilities. The team verified the correct installation and configuration of each school’s Building Automation System (BAS), ensuring consistency in graphics and alarms to simplify facility staff operations and maintenance.
Challenge: Multiple contractors and wide variations in project size and complexity across the district. Solution: IMEG collaborated directly with each contractor to standardize system implementation, provide troubleshooting, and deliver value-engineering recommendations throughout design and construction. IMEG also provided critical support during the warranty period for 12 Phase I schools, offering remote performance monitoring, rapid response to comfort issues, and ongoing training for facility staff.
Project outcome: Through comprehensive Performance Commissioning and hands-on Building Advocation, IMEG helped deliver reliable, efficient mechanical systems that were easier for school staff to operate and maintain. The firm’s continued involvement in Phase II reflects OPS’s confidence in IMEG’s ability to enhance operational performance and ensure long-term building success.
