Clinic Relocation and Enabling Project
IMEG provided mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and technology engineering design services for the relocation of the Internal Medicine Clinic and the Family Care Clinic. The relocation of the clinics allowed the implementation of the collaborative care model and addresses expandability for future growth, improving patient experience, and patient/caregiver flow and access to care.
The clinics were relocated in the South Tower and involved the renovation of 46,520-sf of space using the Advocate Aurora Health standard exam room and office space templates. The other areas include waiting areas, shared caregiver work areas, and various caregiver support spaces. As part of the renovation, new MEP infrastructure was provided including air handling units, power distribution, and technology rooms.
The team worked together to utilize opportunities for prefabrication and modular construction in order to reduce the construction schedule, reduce waste, and minimize interruptions within an active hospital. The project achieved 18%, exceeding the goal of 8% and allowing the project to finish under budget.
To enable the clinic relocation, existing program elements occupying the fifth floor of the Main Hospital such as physician on-call sleep rooms, support service offices, etc., were relocated to other areas of the hospital and ASMC campus.
