Compositive Primary School
IMEG completed both MEP commissioning and MEP design services for the Compositive Primary School in Aurora, CO. The school is a workplace based primary school for pre-kindergarten through 5th grade and is located on the Fitzsimons Innovation Campus. The new school is 21,000 SF. The building includes classrooms, resource rooms, admin spaces, restrooms, break areas, a kitchen area, janitorial spaces and mechanical and electrical rooms.
The building’s main mechanical systems consist of 3 main rooftop AHUs that provide conditioned air to VAV units throughout the individual spaces. The two systems serving the classroom wings utilize displacement ventilation while the system serving the admin area utilizes overhead air distribution. Supplemental heating and cooling is provided by a series of unit heaters, baseboard heaters and split system AC units. A heating water system consisting of a gas fired boiler and 2 distribution pumps provides snowmelt to the sidewalks and entry walkways. Lighting controls are accomplished through a series of low voltage switches, occupancy sensors, photocells and a main programmable lighting control panel.
IMEG successfully provided 2018 IECC Commissioning services for the project with additional scope for reviewing controls submittals and test & balance reports.
Relevant Key Features:
- The building utilized AHUs with DX cooling systems and modulating, gas fired heat.
- The air distribution in the building was provided through both overhead and displacement ventilation.
- Dedicated cooling only split systems were utilized in the electrical and MDF rooms.
