Conversion from Dorm to Office Building
IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services for the renovation and conversion of a 15,000-sf, four-story dormitory into an office building and meeting spaces for the Urban Institute, Institutional Research and Distance Education..
The existing floor-to-floor height of 8’4” posed a challenge as the new office space needed a minimum of 7’6.” To make the mechanical system work, IMEG incorporated a chilled beam system with a dedicated outside air system to maximize the ceiling space. A chiller and supporting equipment supplied chilled water to the chilled beams.
