The project: IMEG led a multi-discipline team in the evaluation of re-purposing this 100-year-old historic property and developing a decommissioning plan once conversion of the pumped collection system to a gravity collection system is complete.

The goal: The team’s objective was to assess adaptive reuse opportunities for the historic facility while ensuring continued and reliable operation during the conversion process.

Scope of work: Close coordination with the planned Texas High Speed Rail Dallas station located immediately adjacent to the Cadiz Pump Station and other area business development leaders was critical in developing opinions on adaptive reuse of the facility. Other evaluations resulted in $14 million construction improvements to a critical Y-Inlet junction structure that required a 150-million gallons per day bypass pumping operation from the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center across the downtown I-30 Canyon to the newly constructed siphon inlet, and mechanical and electrical improvements to improve station operation reliability during the planned conversion period.

The outcome: The project resulted in a comprehensive decommissioning and adaptive reuse strategy, significant infrastructure upgrades to a critical junction, and ensured continued operation of the system through a major bypass operation all while aligning with future high-speed rail development and downtown revitalization efforts.
