Facility Expansion
The project: Provide construction period commissioning services for a 55,000-sf expansion at the Girls, Inc. facility to support its growing enrollment and programming needs.
The goal: Expand and enhance the existing facility to better serve girls of various ages through increased access to athletic, medical, and multi-use spaces that promote health, education, and empowerment.
Project amenities: The new addition features a full-size gymnasium with an upper-level walking deck, dedicated medical facilities, a fitness/workout space, and a variety of flexible-use areas designed to support a broad range of programs and age groups.
Design approach: IMEG supported the project with commissioning services focused on optimizing performance and energy efficiency. Systems included water source heat pumps,
an energy recovery ventilation system, a rooftop air handling unit, unitary HVAC equipment, a new boiler, and fluid cooler. An existing boiler with acceptable remaining life was repurposed, demonstrating a sustainable and cost-effective approach. IMEG also provided building advocation services for one year post-construction, monitoring system performance, organizing a preventative maintenance program, and tracking utility bills to verify operational energy efficiencies.
Project outcome: The expanded facility now offers a more comprehensive, efficient, and comfortable environment for Girls, Inc. programming, with mechanical systems designed to support long-term sustainability and occupant well-being.
