Fire Station Seismic Rehabilitation (SRGP)
The project: Provide seismic rehabilitation and facility upgrades for Tillamook Fire Station 71, a critical emergency response center for the Tillamook community.
The goal: Strengthen the structural integrity of the 1979 fire station to extend its useful life by 50 years, while maintaining operational efficiency and respecting spatial and aesthetic limitations.
Project scope: The project includes seismic upgrades, a new roofing system, renovated upstairs living quarters, and an updated HVAC system.
Design approach: IMEG authored the successful Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program (SRGP) application and was selected to lead the design team for this essential project. Our engineering team addressed significant structural deficiencies—such as the lack of lateral elements at the apparatus bay doors and inadequate shear walls throughout the facility—while carefully considering the spatial constraints and architectural character valued by the District. As the design team lead, IMEG coordinated closely with the owner, CM/GC, and fellow consultants to ensure seamless communication and resolution of both technical and operational challenges.
Project outcome: Upon completion, Tillamook Fire Station 71 will be a safer, modernized facility capable of serving the community for decades to come, with enhanced seismic resilience, improved living quarters, and upgraded infrastructure—all while preserving the building’s functionality and essential role in emergency response.
