The project: IMEG provided structural engineering services to give the historic Woodrow Wilson High School much needed upgrades.

The goal: The project aimed to update the school while preserving the historic elements of the existing building.

The design: A 60,000+-sf addition added a new gymnasium and locker room, fine arts space, and 24 teaching spaces with a focus on engineering, labs, and their robotics program. The new competition gym is an ICC 500 storm shelter and will able to accommodate every student and staff member of the high school and adjacent middle school if the need arises. An elevator was also added for the three-story addition. None of the historical protected portions of the school were removed and various renovations were made to the current school.

The outcome: The renovated school provided more safety, energy efficiency, and modern amenities to meet the evolving needs of the district while keeping the history of the building in tact.
