The project: IMEG provided landscape architecture services for the Stoughton High School redevelopment, which involved a comprehensive redesign of the school’s athletic and recreational facilities.

The goal: The objective was to create a state-of-the-art athletic complex that could support a wide range of sports, improve accessibility, and provide community-oriented enhancements, while integrating modern infrastructure and sustainable design practices.

The design: Key design features include a new synthetic turf stadium outfitted with LED sports lighting, a custom 1,650-seat home bleacher system with an accessible press box, and a 400-seat visitor bleacher. Additional amenities include a concession/restroom building, plaza, and an overlook pavilion.

A linear park, funded by the Community Preservation Commission, was introduced behind the bleachers and press box, providing an inviting space and improved access on game days.

The athletic complex also features:

  • A six-lane urethane running track with field event areas
  • A natural grass soccer field with LED lighting
  • Five new tennis courts
  • A new maintenance garage with a pump system utilizing existing wells for irrigation
  • A pedestrian promenade that connects parking to the stadium while serving as a fire lane for the school

The outcome: The redesigned site now offers a modern, fully accessible, and community-friendly athletic campus. It accommodates school sports, public recreation, and community events, while enhancing connectivity and safety. The integration of sustainable infrastructure and thoughtful circulation design ensures long-term usability and operational efficiency.
