Housing For Homeless Youth
IMEG provided structural engineering design services for a new 34-unit apartment building providing homeless youth ages 18-24 in Mesa County, Colorado, a safe place to live along with services to help transition them out of being homeless.
The apartments feature full kitchens and single bathrooms and are fully furnished. The building also has more than 3,000-sf of common space for community gatherings, electronic gaming, art, and cooking, and 30,000-sf of outdoor space with a patio, play area, and recreational activities.
Structural design included a three-story atrium supported by Alaskan Yellow cedar glue laminated timbers (columns and beam) and structural insulated panels (SIP) roof.
The project was possible due to receiving Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) low-income house tax credits.
