Laboratory Fit-out
With a goal of providing cutting-edge space for interdisciplinary research, the Life Sciences Laboratory II building on the University of Massachusetts, Amherst campus features both laboratory and laboratory support space that includes a growth chamber laboratory, a freezer farm laboratory, an FTMS laboratory, and a server room. Working in the 98,000-sf South Wing, IMEG provided plumbing and fire protection engineering services for three floors, and another partial floor of the fit-out. IMEG designed and selected pre-action systems serving the human testing laboratory and MRI suite, and designed the lab waste and plumbing systems serving the laboratory fixtures, fume hoods and incubators. In addition, work involved high purity water systems, lab gas piping systems, and animal watering systems. All plumbing and fire protection system design was carefully coordinated to limit interference with a fully functional MRI suite.
