The project: Located in the heart of the Weymouth Landing neighborhood, IMEG partnered with the Town as the Landscape Architect to transform this well-loved library.

The goal: The primary objective was to enhance the library’s exterior space, offering improved circulation, parking, pedestrian connections, and versatile outdoor areas to serve as a vibrant community hub for events, recreation, and ecological education.

Design approach: We collaborated closely with the Mayor’s office, Library Director, Department of Public Works, and the community through several meetings to ensure the design met diverse needs. The new site design offers ample parking, safe pedestrian pathways, and a welcoming front entrance with a seating plaza.

The transformed topography introduces an outdoor café terrace, a terraced lawn with seat walls, and a central lawn ideal for events. Our role extended to the playground’s relocation and design, preserving the sledding hill while adding slope play features. Surrounding the playground, we created engaging passive spaces, including a pollinator garden, sensory garden, picnic plaza with a stage, and a stone amphitheater.

Stormwater management was seamlessly integrated with a rain garden and swales that provide an ecological experience while managing runoff from the upper parking lot.

The outcome: The result is a dynamic, multi-functional outdoor space that not only meets practical needs but also fosters community engagement, ecological awareness, and recreational opportunities. The redesigned library grounds now serve as a welcoming landmark for Weymouth Landing, enhancing the neighborhood’s vibrancy and community spirit.
