Lock Shop Improvements
The project: The 5,000-sf tenant improvement project relocates the University of Washington’s Lock Shop to a more central campus location within Odegaard Hall.
Project amenities: The Lock Shop tenant improvement project includes specialized spaces such as a 1,207 square foot parts and storage area, a 600 square foot CAAMS room, and a 500 square foot locksmiths’ workshop. Additional amenities include a break room, conference room, records storage, and a dedicated parts store to support the shop’s operations.
Design approach: IMEG reviewed the existing systems and evaluated which specialty shop components were suitable for relocation. Worked with Lock Shop staff and UW EH&S to evaluate how they use the dust collection system and various tools to ensure a safe environment for staff. As part of the project our team worked with UW Facilities, UW Shops, and Johnson Controls to evaluate the condition and potential options for replacement and refurbishment of the existing HVAC pneumatic dual duct terminal units. Unique features: Based on the budget constraints of the project it was not possible to replace or upgrade the controls the existing units. Our team helped to facilitate discussions between all parties to find replacement parts for the existing terminal units and provide a workable system within the constraints of the project.
Project outcome: The relocation of the existing Lock Shop to the central campus increases productivity and allows the University to respond and provide support quicker to safety and security issues.
