Main Building Seismic Rehabilitation (SRGP)
The project: IMEG was selected to design seismic strengthening upgrades to the gymnasium and classrooms for the Elementary School/Middle School Main Building after authoring a successful SRGP grant application. The project encompassed a total of 15,700-sf and included a full roof replacement over the entire building footprint.
The goal: The primary objective was to enhance the structural resilience of the school’s main building, ensuring the safety of students and staff while modernizing key facility components impacted by the seismic upgrades.
Project amenities: In addition to the seismic improvements, the project scope included replacing the ceiling and lighting system in the gymnasium, as well as updating interior finishes such as paint and flooring in areas affected by the structural work. These upgrades provided a refreshed and cohesive environment throughout the impacted spaces.
Design approach: IMEG took a comprehensive approach by integrating seismic strengthening with necessary facility upgrades. The team coordinated closely with the school to minimize disruption and ensure that all improvements aligned with the educational environment’s needs. The inclusion of contingency funds in the grant cost estimate allowed for flexibility in addressing unforeseen conditions.
Challenge: During construction, the team encountered unexpected issues such as dry rot and insufficient structural support in certain areas. Solution: Thanks to the proactive allocation of contingency funds, our team was able to address these unforeseen conditions efficiently, ensuring that the project remained on schedule and within budget.
Project outcome: The project was completed on time and on budget, delivering critical safety and aesthetic upgrades to the school community. The successful outcome demonstrates IMEG’s commitment to quality, adaptability, and client satisfaction.
