IMEG served as the commissioning authority for the University of Chicago Medicine’s Medical Center, which achieved LEED Silver certification. IMEG provided both LEED Fundamental and Enhanced commissioning for the nearly 1.2 million square foot, 10-story facility – a world class addition to the existing medical center.

The center is focused on advanced treatment of cancer, high-tech imaging, neurosciences, advanced surgery, and gastrointestinal procedures. It houses 240 private patient rooms, 24 operating rooms, extensive imaging facilities, seven interventional radiology rooms, and a GI suite including 12 procedure rooms, two fluoroscopy rooms, and two bronchoscopy rooms. A cafeteria, pharmacy, and other support areas are included, as well as two floors of shell space for future diagnostic and treatment service expansion.

The building is served by campus steam and its own chiller plant. The scope of commissioning was very extensive, with items such as nurse call, paralleling switchgear, oversight of NETA acceptance testing, and generator operation, going well beyond LEED requirements. Complex blackout tests were also part of the project scope.
