Liberty Center, a 1.2 million-sf multi-use development located between Cincinnati and Dayton, opened in 2015 as a dynamic destination for retail, recreation, dining, and entertainment. The center was designed to serve as a vibrant social and civic hub for the community, offering a range of shopping, dining, and experiential design elements, along with a mix of residential and office spaces to foster a live-work-play environment.

IMEG’s lighting design team, Illuminating Concepts, played a critical role in enhancing the development’s unique design, including its ‘repurposed warehouse’ aesthetic and expansive outdoor spaces. Working closely with developer Steiner, the team carefully crafted lighting solutions to complement the center’s modern, industrial-inspired architecture while maintaining a welcoming and safe atmosphere. A key focus of the lighting design was ensuring appropriate contrast ratios for pedestrian safety, particularly during evening hours and overcast winter months. The thoughtful lighting approach helped to create clear pathways and enhance visibility for visitors, all while contributing to the center’s immersive, experiential ambiance.

In addition to providing functional lighting for safety, the lighting design also helped to emphasize the vibrant, energetic environment of Liberty Center. Custom lighting features were integrated into the outdoor plazas and key communal spaces, providing a welcoming glow that encourages social interaction. The lighting seamlessly aligns with the center’s goal of being a modern and convenient destination for both residents and visitors, further enhancing the shopping, dining, and entertainment experience. Through creative, functional lighting solutions, our lighting team helped bring Liberty Center to life as a central hub of activity for the region.
