Neighborhood Park
The project: In collaboration with the City of Boston Department of Neighborhood Development and Breakthrough Properties, IMEG is designing a passive neighborhood park and community garden amidst a dense residential neighborhood.
Design approach: The park design is inspired by the “honeycomb” pattern understanding the crucial role bees play in urban agriculture.
The design features a gently sloping topography with an accessible pathway that showcases the community garden plots while offering a scenic viewpoint from the central gathering plaza. The plaza, equipped with picnic tables, is anchored by a striking metal sculpture inspired by the honeycomb pattern, creating a distinctive identity for the park. Surrounding the plaza, an open lawn with thoughtfully placed benches along the pathways provides flexible spaces for gatherings, from intimate meetups to larger community events.
The outcome: The design creates an oasis in this urban environment by introducing bio-diversity through several native trees, shrubs, and perennials/ground-covers.
