New Art Gallery
IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and technology engineering services for the design and construction phases build out of 8,200-sf of space within Uptown Station in Normal, Illinois, to be used for Illinois State University’s “University Galleries.”
Key systems for any gallery space are proper temperature and humidity control, lighting, and flexible space for reconfiguration. The space was designed to maintain the university’s high standard for temperature and humidity control, also maintaining lease guidelines to be able to borrow art from other institutions. Although lighting was designed by a third party consultant, IMEG consulted with the owner and team and coordinated all work to be integrated into our drawings. Flexible power and technology infrastructure design allow for a variety of set ups as much of the modern art displayed in the space varies substantially in size and form.
The project had an extremely tight budget, and the entire team strived to design systems that would meet the demanding needs of an art gallery, but also fit the client’s funding constraints.
