IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, and technology engineering design services for the 30,305-sf new two-story culinary institute at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Blufford, SC.

The hands-on teaching institute features two teaching kitchens, a baking lab, six classrooms, two computer labs, a teaching restaurant, lecture theater, and grab-and-go cafe. An interactive museum, or FOODseum, tells the story of Southern food.

The mechanical systems on the project were a mix of Constant Air Volume (CAV) rooftop units and Variable Air Volume (VAV) rooftop units with VAV boxes to control different space temperatures. The system contained numerous kitchen exhaust fans and make up air systems to serve the many kitchens on the site. Some of the systems required demand control ventilation provided for the large event spaces.

Electrical design included decorative lobby and stair lighting, teaching/demonstration/prep kitchen equipment coordination, generator, fire pump coordination, and voice evacuation fire alarm system.

Technology design included voice/data systems, access control systems, intrusion detection systems, security camera systems, and higher education A/V systems.
