IMEG provided MEP engineering and design services for University of Kansas’ 166,500-sf new Capitol Federal Hall School of Business. MEP design included HVAC systems, power distribution and lighting control systems. The project also included the design of a new chiller water plant facility to service the School of Business along with future expansion capabilities to serve a new chilled water loop.

The new building strays away from the typical campus model – student spaces on lower levels, faculty above. An expansive four-story atrium serves as a connector between the building’s major program elements, which includes student incubator, labs, classrooms, offices, and conference areas, while also housing a variety of informal gathering spaces.

Features include:

  • First-floor advising suite includes a hallway of small conference rooms, waiting areas, and lounge
  • A green roof on a portion of the building outside the dean’s office • A 65-piece original art collection
  • On the first floor, a large-scale art installation
  • An antique book collection
  • The McCarthy Applied Portfolio Management Finance Lab, which houses two Bloomberg Terminals and an electronic stock ticker
  • A lounge for undergraduate honors students
  • 20 classrooms, including a 350-seat auditorium, a 125-seat classroom

Capitol Federal Hall is intended to be a building for the entire campus, not just for those in the School of Business.
