The new Washburn Center for children is a nonprofit center for children’s mental health. With the 2,700 youths the organization serves per year, the center had outgrown its previous location. The goal of the new building was to provide a welcoming, open environment to complement the services provided by Washburn, making it the state’s leading children’s hospital. In addition to the building itself, site amenities include a playground, basketball court, climbing equipment, and trails.

IMEG provided both civil and structural engineering services on this project as the urban site team had to factor in design layout and structural system configuration that facilitated views of the downtown Minneapolis skyline.
