New Corporate Hangar
A new Corporate Aviation Facility for a large AG manufacturer creates an international gateway for the company and “front door” since nearly 50% of the company’s flights are international. The world-class facility accommodates up to six corporate jets and space for aircraft technicians, pilots, staff, reception area, and second-story flight planning room.
The apron leading from the hangar to the airport runway has 9,000-sf served by a hydronic snowmelt system. The fire protection system includes a high expansion foam system in the hangar area to meet strict NFPA requirements. The high ceilings in the hangar and the intensity of a potential jet-fuel fire required a faster fire detection method. The hangar space is heated by infrared radiant tube heaters. The hangar sanitary system handles day-to-day maintenance functions of the aircraft, routing sanitary discharge through oil separators and to the municipal sanitary system.
The pre-engineered metal building required foundations to support the load, as well as a uniquely designed two-story structurally exposed “wedge” space, which runs the length of the office building. This area features large areas of glass, requiring innovative structural designs to act as the lateral system and provide a clean interior look.
