Spread between three buildings and having outgrown its space, the University of Iowa Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences – the largest undergraduate program on campus – constructed a new 60,000-square-foot facility.
IMEG provided engineering and design services for the building, which includes research labs, classrooms, student interaction spaces, offices, and conference rooms.

The facilty’s 70-student and 30-student classrooms are capable of combining to form high-tech TILE (Transform, Interact, Learn, and Engage) spaces, and the 15 new human research labs serve as a hub for multiple disciplines including neurology, biology, computer science, and other natural health sciences.

System designs included campus chilled water and steam, dedicated outdoor air system with perimeter radiant heat, and cooling-only recirculating air handling units. The project was designed with the goal of reducing energy costs by 20% below the ASHRAE 90.1-2010 baseline.
