New Facility with Town Center
IMEG provided MEP, fire protection, and technology engineering design services for the new Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta, ME.
The new, 200,000-square-foot facility replaced an outdated nursing home. The 138-bed facility provides a community within its four buildings, three of which will house 10, 12, and 15-bed units designed from a “small home” model. Each single-occupant unit has a kitchen, private bathroom, dining area, and den. Shared areas include dining and living rooms, a common kitchen, and a courtyard where veterans can participate in physical therapy and outdoor activities.
A centralized building serves as the “town center,” where residents have access to a barber/beauty shop, ice cream shop and bistro, movie theater, veteran’s club, and children’s play area. The facility also houses a therapy pool and rehabilitation gymnasium including zero-gravity and virtual reality equipment.
