New Health Science Center
IMEG provided engineering design and services for Rock Valley College’s new Health Sciences Center. The facility provides a 21st century learning environment for existing and emerging health industry degree and certificate programs, putting all of the college’s health programs under one roof.
Programs supported include nursing, certified nursing assistant, dental hygiene, EMT/paramedic/fire science, respiratory care, surgical technician, and rehabilitative services. Spaces include 13 classrooms, 10 labs, general student spaces, and building support spaces. An innovative partnership agreement places the OSF Saint Anthony College of Nursing on the top floor of the building, providing seamless transfer for RVC nursing students to continue their education and pursue bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in nursing.
In addition to a 50/50 geothermal field (76 bores, 350 feet deep), sustainable design features include a dedicated outdoor air system coupled with chilled beams; energy recovery wheels in air handling units; daylighting, and LED lighting.
The HVAC system couples the geothermal field with a water-to-water heat pump to create heating water and chilled water to distribute throughout the building. The geothermal field is supplemented with an adiabatic fluid cooler and a high-efficiency condensing boiler. The project also included a 100 KW natural gas generator.
IMEG also designed mock medical air systems for the nursing and dental hygiene labs.
