New Healthy Living Center
IMEG provided engineering design and services for the new Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center, a wellness center for Mayo Clinic employees, retirees, students, volunteers, and spouses in Rochester, MN.
Engineers provided MEP design for phase 1, a 110,000-sf, three-level fitness center that includes a mezzanine running track, aerobics and strength training rooms, meeting and conference spaces, a lap-pool, warm-therapy pool, and two whirlpools.
The design included an under-floor air distribution system that helps maintain air quality in the pool enclosure. In considering patron comfort and health, the goal was to minimize chlorine odors, so a separate air handling unit was included for the pool enclosure to keep the area under negative pressure, drawing air into it and preventing chlorine odors from escaping into adjacent spaces.
The firm also provided design for phase 2, a four-floor, 24,000-sf expansion housing a sports medicine center for rehabilitation, performance analysis, nutrition guidance, as well as massage, yoga, meditation, and acupuncture services. The design also included a commercial instruction kitchen for healthy cooking demonstrations, and a rooftop garden featuring a 60-foot living green wall.
