New Hennepin Avenue Skyway
Minneapolis Community & Technical College was looking to transform the skyway-like structure to better represent their mission to provide access to the transformative power of education in the downtown environment. The skyway serves as a primary entrance to the campus from the parking garage.
IMEG worked closely with the project architect and contractor on this project. The project had unique distinct phases for IMEG. The first phase included analysis of the existing skyway structure knowing there were areas of existing deterioration to the steel framing. IMEG developed required reinforcements of the existing structure due to deterioration.
The next phase IMEG worked with project team to design new structure to integrate the new design of the skyway into the existing structure. The final phase included working with the contractor to further develop reinforcements and details based on the actual existing conditions found as the contractor demolished the existing skyway façade. As a result of the project requirements IMEG was fully engaged in the project through construction. IMEG was the Structural Engineer of Record for the project.
