New High School
The project: Green Level High School is a modern, four-story classroom wing attached to three-story support areas, encompassing 320,888-sf. Located in rapidly growing southwest Cary, NC, the facility serves over 2,200 students in grades 9-12 and emphasizes a holistic, 21st-century learning environment.
The goal: Deliver a comprehensive, future-oriented educational campus that fosters collaboration, transparency, natural daylight, and strong community identity. The design aimed to support robust arts, athletics, academics, and common gathering spaces in alignment with contemporary pedagogical strategies.
The design: Notable features include:
- A four-story classroom wing with extensive glazing for daylight and outdoor views
- Three-story support spaces including media center, dining facilities, and mechanical mezzanines
- Large communal facilities: a 3,200-seat gym, 850-seat auditorium and performing arts center, auxiliary gym, second‑floor media center, and dining hall
- Outdoor sports amenities: 2,500-seat football stadium, baseball, softball, and multi‑sport fields with concessions and support buildings
- A structural steel frame with flat roof spanning a sloping site necessitating complex retaining walls and foundations
The outcome: Green Level High School opened in 2019, initially hosting students displaced during renovations at a nearby school before welcoming its full student body in its own facility later that year. It currently accommodates a capacity of around 2,262 students. The school has earned high rankings in Wake County, recognized for excellence in academics, arts, and athletics
