New K-8 School
IMEG provided MEP engineering design services for the new John S. McCain III Elementary School, the ninth school in the Buckeye Elementary School District. The new elementary school is named after the late Senator John McCain.
The design theme of the new school, Taking Flight, is in honor of Senator McCain’s service as a Jet fighter pilot during his time in the Navy. This theme was implemented when creating the front lobby and stairs to look like a flight deck simulation and to mimic a flight taking off.
IMEG worked collaboratively with the architect and had to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic, which challenged the team to maintain communication while staying safe and healthy. Another challenge IMEG faced was supply chain issues, which caused a re-bid process. This resulted in the design timetable being prolonged and construction being shortened to eight months.
The new school includes:
- Outdoor Learning Courtyard
- Parent and Bus Drop Off
- Learning Studios
- Playgrounds
- Gym
- Lobby
- Office/Administration Area
- Cafeteria
- Playfields/Basketball Courts
