New Leap Academy
IMEG provided engineering, surveying, utility mapping, landscape architecture, stormwater management, and construction administration for a new pre-kindergarten and elementary school on the Benning Road Campus. The 55,000-sf school features classrooms, a 7,000-sf gymnasium, locker rooms, a large cafeteria, and a rubber-surfaced courtyard play area.
Founded in 2007, LEAP Academy includes approximately 200 students in PreK3 and PreK4. In 2019, the school was ranked a Tier 1 school by the DC Public Charter School Board. KIPP is a national network of 48 public charter schools focused on preparing students in underserved communities for college.
At 120 ft. wide and approximately 400 ft. long, the site presented unique masterplanning challenges for the design team. The design utilized multipurpose indoor and outdoor spaces.
