IMEG provided engineering design services for the new Collins Orthodontics Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The building houses the clinic and The Donut, a donut and coffee shop that supports the clinic’s work to offer free braces to pediatric cancer survivors. The 6,483-sf building was completed in 2020. The clinic is 5,679 square feet with a nine-chair open treatment area and private consult rooms with three additional chairs. The facility also includes offices, restrooms, records area, administration area, kitchenette and break room, gift shop, play area, financial area and call center. The Donut has 1,014-sf of space with a full kitchen, in-person dining and an exterior patio.

Mechanical systems for the facility included four packaged rooftop Gas DX units for heating and cooling. The server room has a dedicated split unit to insure proper cooling of technology equipment. Mechanical systems were coordinated with the dental equipment supplier to provide adequate ventilation.

Plumbing systems were designed to allow for ease of maintenance and flexibility for future renovations. They included high-efficiency, low water consumption plumbing fixtures, a new high-efficiency water heater, water softener and emergency eye wash station. Plumbing systems were coordinated with the dental equipment supplier to provide the necessary utilities.

The electrical design included a new 600 Amp, 120/208 Volt, 3-Phase, 4-Wire electrical service to serve the building. Power distribution was designed to support the orthodontics clinic as well as the donut shop. Lighting design included interior and exterior/parking lot lighting. LED lighting was used to provide energy efficient, effective light levels. Automatic lighting controls were designed to provide an energy efficient lighting system.
