New State-of-the-art Sports Complex

The SUSA Academy recently completed Phase I improvements at its new state-of-the-art 25-acre complex in Central Islip, NY. IMEG secured the regulatory approvals for the complex and provided civil, landscape architecture, and master planning engineering design services for Phase I, as well as sports field design, construction administration, field observation, site plans, and contract preparations.
Phase I included the construction of four outdoor synthetic turf soccer fields, a 5,000-sf field house, utility infrastructure improvements, parking facilities, site landscaping design, and both sports field lighting and site lighting design to support the operation.
Phase II improvements, which are currently in the process of obtaining regulatory approvals, include the development of a fifth outdoor synthetic turf field that will be covered for a portion of the year by an air-supported structure. Other Phase II improvements include a new 6,000-sf retail/sports medicine building and a new 2,000-sf facilities maintenance building.
Additional improvements include a venue amenity area to be developed with an entry plaza, the “Athletes Square,” shade structures to serve the competing teams, development of on-site parking, site access with a center landscape median, vehicular site circulation, on-site connections to South Technology Drive, town-owned parking facilities, and connections to nearby town-owned properties. Site and field venues were designed with lawn and landscape berms and structured seating to provide spectator viewing areas, site buffering, and to assist in balancing the earthwork volumes required to develop the property.
The SUSA Academy has affiliations with many of Long Island’s local soccer clubs and the new facility is actively being used by clubs for camps and regional tournaments.
