The project: Renovation and upgrades for all 15 of the hospital’s operating rooms, including consolidation of all surgical services locker rooms; the construction of a new hybrid OR and upgrades to interventional radiology labs.

The goal: Modernize existing operating rooms and support spaces with state-of-the-art imaging and program technologies to provide a patient-focused surgical program, and implementing advanced HVAC and lighting systems.

The approach: IMEG worked closely with the architect, construction manager, and owner to ensure the project stayed on the desired timeline and implemented current clinical processes and technologies. The team worked with virtual reality to integrate the cardiovascular service lines in the new space and received feedback from the hospital staff as they walked through the space in VR.

Challenge: OR and hospital operations had to continue during construction. Solution: Construction was phased over a 14-month period to provide flexibility and adapt to constraints brought on by COVID.

Project outcome: The project was completed on schedule and allowed the hospital’s operations to proceed without interruption. The renovated and new spaces were recognized with a Michiana Builders Association Excellence in Construction Award.
