The project: IMEG provided landscape architecture services to renovate this small and non-accessible neighborhood playground. As part of the project, IMEG led the community process with three meetings towards preferred design that accounted for the tight budget constraints.

The goal: The goal was to create a playful space that mirrors the forested area surrounding the site using natural aesthetics and preservation of mature trees while offering challenging and diverse play.

The design: The park’s proximity to the Indian Ridge conservation woodlands and wetlands involved an approval process which was led by our team. The new design increased the impervious areas from the existing conditions and therefore incorporated a rain garden for stormwater collection. The design was inspired by a tree house in the woods, immersed in nature and full of imagination. The focal aspect of the design, the oval lawn flanked by an asphalt loop, allows for a flexible space for community events. The walking loop and playground safety surfacing are decorated with animal prints and leaf patterns that reflect the native flora and fauna of the area, providing an educational and unique value to the space.

The outcome: The resulting playground blends imaginative play with environmental education, honoring the natural context while enhancing community use.
