Renovation and Expansion
IMEG provided engineering design services for the lab addition project for ZF Friedrichshafen (ZF Group), a global technology company. The 88,000-sf, single-story addition and 240,000-sf renovation of two existing three-story buildings on site. The design will consolidated five existing buildings to create one central location for the company to perform passive safety system R&D labs, including sled crash, bag burst, environmental chambers, and drive-in vibration chambers testing for next generation mobility.
IMEG also provided detailed programming and lab & facility equipment assessments to facilitate with utility load evaluations and lab space requirements. The design also includes combining the existing chiller systems and integrating the new addition to connect to the two existing buildings on the project site.
Challenge: Working with limited utility power and fast project schedule and with different architect teams for C&S and TI.
Solution: IMEG worked simultaneously with the European lab equipment supplies, both C&S and TI architect firms, ZF, and the developer. The IMEG team acted as the bridge builder for the whole project.
The project is currently under construction and is estimated to be completed in Fall 2024.
