The project: A new 5,483-sf, single-story fire station located in Tacoma, Washington.

Project amenities: The new fire station contains a dormitory, laundry room, exercise area, restrooms with showers for fire department staff, and a two bays for emergency vehicle storage.

Design approach: The project included the demolition of the City of Tacoma’s existing fire station building to accommodate the new station and associated parking lot. IMEG provided sustainability and commissioning services for the project, encompassing stormwater mitigation strategies for the driveway and concrete wash pad.

Unique features: The project encompassed both sustainable and commissioned systems, ensuring the fire station operates with enhanced energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and optimal performance of all critical systems.

Project outcome: The new fire station provides adequate space to carry out existing operations that serve citizens located in the greater Tideflats and Northeast Tacoma area. The project is LEED Silver certified.
