Storage Expansion
The project: To expand the storage capacity at Boral Materials Continental Cement’s St. Louis terminal to accommodate increased demand efficiently and cost-effectively.
The goal: The goal of the project was to implement an economical and space-efficient storage solution by constructing a dome structure.
Project features: After careful consideration, it was determined that a dome was the most viable option compared to traditional concrete silos. The newly constructed storage dome has the capacity to hold 40,000-metric tons of cement powder. It utilizes an aerated floor reclaim system, which allows for efficient material retrieval. Additional key components of the project include the optimal utilization of space to maximize storage efficiency. The facility also features an integrated Apex system that supports the filling process and dust collection. Additionally, a single reclaim tunnel is equipped with fluidized floor systems to enhance material handling operations.
Project outcome: The completed storage dome significantly enhances Boral Materials Continental Cement’s storage capabilities while maintaining cost efficiency and operational effectiveness. The facility’s design ensures optimal material handling, which reduces downtime and improves overall storage performance.
