The project: Expansion of the Chamberlain Student Center by adding gathering and event spaces, meeting rooms, media rooms, a prep kitchen, coffee house, and amphitheater, as well as enhancements to the outdoor plaza and terrace.

The goal: Meet their growing enrollment by expanding the student center.

Design approach: IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services, along with construction administration, for the 28,500-sf student center expansion.

The scope of the project included the mechanical and electrical systems required for the new addition, as well as system interface connections where the two buildings connect. HVAC system selection was based on a rigorous life cycle analysis incorporating comparison system energy models, first cost, operating cost, maintenance cost and inflation, and interest projections.

The outcome: The building was constructed to meet current energy codes and perform at a LEED Silver level, and it serves more than 10,000 students, employees, and community members a day.
