The project: Renovation of the historic landmark Clayton University Center, built in 1868 with an addition in the 1950s, at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Penn. The revitalized center offers a social and collaborative experience for students and faculty, supporting academic and professional growth.

Project amenities: The 92,000-sf building includes student lounge and activity spaces, new space for the 200+ Lehigh clubs and organizations, a conference-style boardroom, and a variety of dining options.

Project design: Mechanical system renovations include the HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection, and electrical design includes power, lighting, and fire alarm systems. IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services, along with energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis, for the project.

Challenge: Providing a variety of specialized mechanical and electrical services for a multitude of user groups while maintaining the historic nature of the building.

Project outcome: The renovated Clayton University Center is designed to facilitate a broad range of meetings and activities among Lehigh students, faculty, and staff, and serve as an open, welcoming, and visually inviting hub of campus activity.
